But OMG do I love her! I tend to drift away from the crazy Japanese groups. Like Gackt's own group he made or any visual kei artist's in general. They kind of freak me out. Kyary is Harajuku. I do have my own definition of Harajuku, but here's a proper one: one of many districts in Japan. A popular hang-out for teens who are into Street Fashion or Gothic Lolita style clothing. It's kind of anime central. Where everyone...like everyone dresses up in Harajuku style and just have tons of fun. Sometimes they even pretend they are the character they dress up as
Kyary is way different from any idol I've ever seen. She takes J-pop and fuses it with Harajuku. Fuck I have no idea what she will look like next time I see her. She sports a new look everytime. Which is actually common in Harajuku, to dress up everyday.
A little history on this wonderful woman. She's 18 (I guess 19 now). She was a model for about 4-5 years. And she had this calling that made her want to be a singer, but with a twist, a Harajuku twist.
So, she's a model turned singer.
We're getting a lot of those now, Milky Bunny being an example.
I guess models aren't just good for their looks.
With her promotional single, "PONPONPON" going vital, it made her the star she is today. That song was so fucked up, that I thought I was taking drugs. I can't even explain what's going on. The song has no meaning. It's pointless, but so FASCINATING!! I couldn't look away for one second! I love the fat guy/woman dancing. Just adds to the awesome-ness of Kyary.
Wasn't that amazing! I know you think so! Just remember, this isn't her first single, it was a promotional single...for what...who the fuck cares haha.
Her first single was actually "Tsukema Tsukeru". Technically her first single was "PONPONPON", but I believe Warner Music Japan just wanted to test her before actually making her a real singer. Either way, "Tsukema Tsukeru" was just as messed up as "PONPONPON"! If anything, a little lighter then "PONPONPON", but still weird. The song is about false eyelashes...I don't really know what's the point of the song. I don't really care for the meaning of her songs because i enjoy her style more then her lyrics. As bad as that is. Well here's her first single (to me at least)!
This single was so cool .The lion men were really good dancers and they didn't drive the attention away from her at all. Especially her chip-bag skirt! That was definitely Harajuku style there.
I swear, after both of these songs, I couldn't stop singing along, to both of them!!!!!!!!! She's so impressive. But let's not look away from the facts. "Tsukema Tsukeru" landed #7 on Oricon. That's obviously not bad for a soloist and a debut single on Oricon. I believe she made a record for something with that single. The single sold 13,100 in it's first week. Pretty decent for a debut single. I actually expected more because she's fresh! NEW! INNOVATIVE! I can definitely see "CANDY CANDY" getting #1. It's her official second single and it's going to be released soon I believe.
I would give both her single's 5/5! She made me love J-pop once again. I can't see anything wrong with J-pop and if fresh artist's like her keep coming, I will never get tired of this glory ^_^
Of course people around the world may not like her. She's kind of out there. She's a mix of Harajuku and J-pop. She makes people who look different stand out and have a word. She's not afraid to be different, nor will she ever become "normal". This girl is someone to be looking out for in 2012! Get ready Japan for this godzilla! Kyary Kyary Pamyu is ready to dominate AKB48!
